Dream About Tomorrow

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NLT)

Some of my earliest memories of church are of sitting on wooden pews, surrounded by voices singing The Unclouded Day. Back then, an unclouded day meant sunshine, baseball, bicycles, and long afternoons outside with friends. Years later, I realized the songwriter was pointing to something far greater than the weather.

Through the years, I have visited homes, hospital rooms, and hospice bedsides where familiar hymns often bring comfort when words alone feel inadequate. The Unclouded Day is one of those hymns. Its meaning has grown even clearer beside people whose days are clouded by diagnoses, pain, grief, uncertainty, and difficult goodbyes.

Life, like the weather, has seasons. Some are filled with sunshine—laughter, family, friendship, and joy. Others bring a colder wind as clouds begin to gather.

The apostle Paul knew suffering—pain, hardship, rejection, imprisonment, and loss. Still, his hope was anchored beyond what he could see. He understood that today’s suffering could never compare with what God has prepared for His children.

Paul was not minimizing suffering; he was magnifying eternity. The tears are real, but so is the glory God has prepared for His children—beyond anything an eye has seen, an ear has heard, or a mind has imagined.

The clouds may fill the sky today, but they do not have the final word. When the sun shines, receive it with gratitude. When the skies are cloudy, do not lose heart. God is present in every season, and His promise reaches farther than the storm you can see.

Sometimes the promise of an unclouded day is what carries us through the storms we face today.

This Day

This day, I will receive sunshine with gratitude, trust God in the clouds, and hold on to His promise of an unclouded day.

Pause and Pray

Father, thank You for walking with me through every season. When the skies are bright, help me to be grateful. When clouds gather, remind me that You are near and that Your promised unclouded day is coming. Fill my heart with hope today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
